Albiol sustained a blow to the face during Sunday's training session and has been ruled out of Spain's final Euro 2012 qualifier against Scotland on Tuesday. He was taken for assessment and a small fracture was confirmed, though the club gave no indication as to how long he is expected to be sidelined.

A Real Madrid statement read: "Raul Albiol was injured today in Spain's morning training session at Las Rozas, when he suffered a blow to the face. He has fractured his left cheekbone, which means he has had to leave the squad and will miss the game against Scotland.

"The player has seen Spain team doctor Oscar Celada. Clinical and radiological studies have confirmed that he suffered a small fracture but the bones were not displaced."

Madrid midfielder Xabi Alonso is also doubtful for Tuesday's game after suffering a gashed shin in the 2-0 victory over Czech Republic on Friday.

Spain have already qualified for Euro 2012 after maintaining a 100% record in their seven games to date. Real Madrid are back in action on Saturday when they host Real Betis.
